North Pacific & Nicoya Peninsula
The
Northern Pacific coast of the Guanacaste region is the warmest
and driest of Costa Rica. Silky white, sandy beaches run
along the shore which is home to delightful tropical hotels
that dot the landscape. Visitors find this ocean playground
to be a perfect getaway for those who love watersports from
scuba diving, snorkeling and sailing to surfing and deep
sea fishing, or just plain relaxing and basking in the warmth
of the sun.
Away from the coast, the
flat, arid land supports sugarcane plantations and a series
of parks and reserves whose stark dryness forces many local
species of birds and animals to congregate along rivers
and at the numerous watering holes. Birdwatchers will delight
in the large variety of birds that migrate to the area from
September to March. Watching the leatherback turtles laying
their eggs on the beaches is a once-in-a-lifetime experience
not to be missed if visiting during the nesting season,
December to February.
Further south is the Nicoya Peninsula.

in the remoteness and tranquility of nature, while still
enjoying pristine beaches and vast expanses of ocean. This
area is home to the Cabo Blanco Reserve and the Curú
National Wildlife Refuge which includes more than 84 acres
of beaches, mangrove swamps and lush hill forest of incredible
